Obituary of Jean Bordeaux Pender

CHAPEL HILL - Jean Bordeaux Pender, 81, of Chapel Hill, passed away on Sunday, February 21 at UNC Cancer Hospital.
Mrs. Pender was born in Burgaw, North Carolina to James and Sue Coldwell Bordeaux. Mrs. Pender graduated from East Carolina University and continued her studies at the University of North Carolina receiving her Master's Degree in Guidance. She taught and worked in the guidance department at Northern High School in Durham for many years. Her greatest joy during this time was seeing "Her" children excel. She was a member of the University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Pastor's Bible Study Group and the Senior Adult Council. Jean is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margie Highsmith; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Eloise and John Frazier and Marie and Edward Ferrell; and a brother James Bordeaux.
Surviving members of her family are her husband of 43 years, Arnold; a brother-in-law, Charles Highsmith; a sister, Delisle Stoeckel; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, as well as several members of Arnold's family whom she loved and considered as her own sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 26,2016 at 2:00 at University United Methodist Church on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall at the church.
