Eugene Howard Lindsey posted a condolence

Today, I learned of Ms. B's passing. My heart was sadden and also glad that she lived a long life. Many people do not know of her long reaching affect into other people's life and successes. My two sisters and I have been influenced greatly by this woman. In my family alone, a teacher, a doctor and an engineer. I also know that in my graduating class alone, there were more than 60 of us who became engineers, doctors and teachers. So Ms. B's impact was just not on the 60 of us, but those who benefited from our lives as well. Rest well my beloved Ms. B.

For any of you who might go back and read these again like I do, your very own comments, I want to say thank you. You, her children were her life for so many years. It not only made you good people, it made her a better person as well. It jas been over six months; seems more like six year and I miss her every day. Any of you who attended her memorial service heard how from your comments how she enriched your lives. Yes, she was a beacon and the light on the Hill that affectred so many lives and mine the most of all. Thank you

As a student at Northern High School, I have such fond memories of Miss Bordeaux (as we knew her then). She was always there for each of us and never made us feel that it was just her job to talk to us. She was sincere, warm, and welcoming when we knocked on her door.

Wonderful lady, see wasn't even my councillor at the time, (she was assigned to seniors) but she cared about everyone and took the time for me (a freshman) almost like a second mom. It meant so much, we know there is a place in Heaven for her!

I was a senior at Northern High School when Jean Bordeaux worked there as a guidance counselor. Like other seniors at Northern in 1964, I was the first in my family to go to college and navigating the process was overwhelming to me. I spent hours in her office discussing various options, changing my mind on a weekly basis, and searching for the perfect answer about what to do with my life. Her door was always open to me and she listened with unbelievable patience and unconditional acceptance. Somehow, when I was in her presence, she always made me feel that I was the only student she had on her roster.
Years later, when I followed her example, and became a high school guidance counselor, I could not have had a better role model. As did she, I loved my job, and I always attempted to follow the example she had set for me. I lived outside of North Carolina for many years and only recently moved back to the area. I deeply regret that I did not contact her and tell her face-to-face how much she meant to me.
Even though she is no longer among us, I am still learning from her. Her final lesson to me is to never postpone telling others how much they mean to you and how grateful you are for their presence in your life. I hope that somehow even now she might hear my words of profound gratitude and appreciation.

My children have a hard time thinking about you being the guidance counselor for me, Billy and the three of them. You have impacted so many lives in a good way. Thanks for being who you were.

I worked in the guidance office during my elective my senior year. I have red hair and wore it in a short curly perm. Every time I came in Mrs. Pender would sing, "tomorrow, tomorro, I love ya tomorrow!" She was that beacon of love, encouragement, and acceptance to all the students. I am so fortunate to have known her.

I first met Miss Bordeaux as a ninth grade freshman at Northern High. She, more than any other made the transition from grammar school to high school less traumatic for me. In the past 53 years I have never forgotten her perpetual smile, her beauty, her humor and her obvious care for the students. When she was around all was well. Like most of the others at Northern I just loved her. Her life here on earth surely touched and helped so many and certainly made a difference. My sincere sympathy to her family and friends and all of the students who knew and loved her. God Bless

Jean was my guidance counselor at NHS from 1962-1966. Later in life, we used to share laughs and old stories when she would come and visit at the Streets at Southpoint Mall where I worked as a maintenance mechanic. I would see her every few weeks when she came out to the mall shopping. She was always cheerful, and eager to hear about her older students and what they are up to these days. Heaven has a good one now. She will certainly be missed.

Well…we all know there is a wonderful angel in Heaven now. You guided so many of us at Northern High School with a kind word and an eagle eye. It was wonderful to have your continued friendship through all the years. I'm going to miss seeing you at the UNC events; it was always so nice to see you and Arnold and receive a warm hug. I will miss this wonderful lady. Mrs. Pender brought joy to my years as a student at Northern High. When my family joined University UMC eight years ago, I was thrilled to see her in the congregation. I went up after church and re-introduced myself, and she said, "Honey, I know who you are. You're one of my children!" I think she remembered every one of us. We'd talk about NHS, and the Tar Heels, every time we saw each other. She was a joy to be around. Praying for peace and comfort for her family and friends.
