Nancy Norcott Cheek, 69 of Chapel Hill, NC passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of February 22, 2016. Nancy was born at Watts Hospital in Durham NC on July 29, 1946 to the late Clarence Norcott Cheek and the late Alice R Faulkner. Nancy graduated from Saint Genevieve of the Pines, a boarding school in Asheville, NC and received a BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Nancy loved nature and the outdoors spending all her summers growing up as a camper and then a counselor at Camp Yonahlossee in Blowing Rock, NC.
Nancy served in the Dean's office at Duke University Law School from 1998 through her retirement in 2010. Nancy's deep affection brought her quickly out of retirement; she rejoined the school in 2011, in the academic services department, working closely with a number of faculty, doing what she loved the best, reading and editing.
Nancy was a devoted member of the University United Methodist Church in Chapel and an active Bible study group participate. She is survived by her two sisters Leigh C Raynor (Reed) of Chapel Hill, NC and Betsy C Howland (Michael) of Mount Pleasant, SC. She was a beloved aunt of Elizabeth R Singleton (Lee), William R Raynor 111 (Millie), Alice B Howland and grandnieces Raynor Leigh Singleton, Ann Watson Raynor, and Elizabeth Reed Raynor.
