Obituary of Jonas Warren Kessing

Jay passed away peacefully, surround by his family on March 16, 2016. He grew up and lived in Chapel Hill and will always be remembered for his deep love of his family, his friends, the Tarheels, the game of golf and the beach. Jay was the general manager of Lights Unlimited, Inc. and owner of Lights Unlimited, Inc. of Chapel Hill for the past 25 years. His latest passion was building his commercial retail space in Pittsboro with "his girls". Jay is preceded in death by both his Mother, Alice H. Kessing and his Father, Jonas W. Kessing. Jay is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ginger King Kessing; his daughter Katie Kessing Webb and her husband, Kelly Mitchell Webb Jr.; and his daughter Brooke King Kessing and her fiancé, Christian Blake Fowler; sisters: Diane K. Jaskot and her husband, Jay Jaskot; Joan K. Driscoll and her husband, Richard Driscoll; Alice K. Harris and her husband, Robert Harris; brother: Ned H. Kessing and his wife, Kathy Kessing; father-in-law: David Wall King and his wife, Dixie O. King; brother-in-law David Wall King Jr. and his wife Shelly E. King; and his 9 nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Jay's life will be held at 9:00AM, Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael St, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. A reception will follow the private graveside burial from 1:00 to 3:00PM at The Preserve at Jordan Lake, 840 The Preserve Trail, Chapel Hill, NC 27517. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, March 21, 2016 at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Transitions LifeCare and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
