Obituary Frederick Ross Porter Frederick Ross Porter, 76 of Chapel Hill, NC passed away Monday, September 25, 2017. He was the son of F. Ross Porter (Assistant Superintendent of Duke Hospital) and Margret Porter of Hillsborough, NC. Most people referred to him as Eric. Eric headed up the technical administrative side of Duke Hospital's radiology department for 40+ years. He loved his work. He enjoyed traveling to many countries demonstrating the newest technology for various diagnostic imaging. He was married to the love of his life, Katherine Bland Porter for 50+ years. The two of them were inseparable. They lived their life in Chapel Hill, NC. Built a home and raised two children. They treasured and spoiled four grandchildren. Eric's favorite pass time was hunting and fishing. He passed his love of the outdoors down to his son and his three grandsons. He was an active member of the National Wildlife Federation. Eric was preceded in death by his wife (Katherine). His brother, Forest Porter. His mother, Margret Porter. And his Father, F. Ross Porter. Eric is survived by his two children. Son, David Porter (wife: Laura, children: Reid, Grant and Macie) Harrisburg, NC. Daughter, Katrina P. Cochran (husband Charles, child: Tucker Carroll) of Shelby, NC. And brother in-law, Wayne Bland (wife Ann) of Wilson, NC. Eric's passing came sudden and unexpected. His family takes peace in the truth that God is all-knowing, all-loving, and all-forgiving. We can take comfort that Eric is with his beloved Katherine. God knows the pain of wanting to be with a loved one who has passed. In Eric's moment of passing, God was there. Eric Porter will be greatly missed. He will live on in our hearts forever.
