My Most Heartfelt Condolences at Your Time of Loss:
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Allan S. Krall, born August 14, 1948. My dad's career path brought me to Chapel Hill in August, 1965, when Ronnie and I were 17. I graduated CHHS in August, 1966. After that, I went on active duty in the U.S. navy. I returned to Chapel Hill in 1986.
After living with Ma briefly, I pursued a course of study at Carolina. Due to an as yet identified service connected health disorder, I was not able to earn a teaching certificate. In other words, my unidentified PTSD kept me from becoming a high school math teacher.
Veterans such as myself have frequent difficulty with law enforcement, since we seem strange and frightening. Because we are strange and frightening. I found myself in District Court on Henderson Street from time to time.
On occasion, Ronnie approached me saying, "Mr. Krall, I believe I was in English class with you." "Did you have Mrs. Barnard third period?" "Yes, I did."
Ronnie maintained order every time I was in court with him. He treated me with respect, as I hope I did him. I am grief-stricken at this loss.
I will continue to think of Ronnie every time I go to Margaret Lane for whatever business I might have.
Your obedient servant,
Allan

Hi my name is Kayla and I am a local bible teacher. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. There is a very comforting scripture at Isaiah 25:8. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can all look forward to a time when death will be no more. I hope that this scripture can bring some true comfort during these difficult times.

Judy and Heather, Ronnie taught me the ropes on working as a Bailiff and doing security for the Orange County Courthouse. Rob Riley and I worked the Metal Detector along with Ronnie for 15 years. He was a funny, bright, compassionate guy and I miss him. He was totally dedicated to his family. Rest easy Ronnie/

My condolences to your family... I am a good friend to Rob's wife, Janet. Janet always talked very fondly of your family and shared occasional humorous stories Ronald told about his days on the Sheriff's Department. May your family find peace in knowing his humor has made people he did not even know smile.... Much Love to you all

A wonderful man and a great uncle. Like Aimee, I'll never forget picking grapes (and discovering seeds!) and watching the hogs in the summer. Family cookouts were always a wonderful blessing. It will be nice to see him returned to a healthy young man again. Rest in peace, Uncle Ronnie.

I'll never forget that gravely voice and getting a patented Maddry hug from this big solid man. Thanks for being the Uncle you didn't have to be. Thanks for grapes and showing me how cool a hog can be. Thanks for not getting mad when we got the golf cart stuck.

On May 25, 2000 a bad thunderstorm/tornado came through Efland. I worked for the sheriff at the time and was asleep after working night shift. She woke me up to tell me the weather was getting bad and there was a tornado warning. We had a 2 year old and our second child turned 1 on that day. I told her to get our 1 year old out of the crib and lets go to my parents house since we lived in a trailer. My wife got our daughter and came out of the bedroom and as she did a tree fell through our trailer and crushed the crib my 1 year old had just been in. We had to relocate for a while. Ronnie had just purchased a dump truck and came over and let us use the truck to move everything out of our trailer. I will always remember how kind he was to us that day and days to come. RIP Ronnie. You'll be missed.

Judy, rarely do I receive news of all the happenings in Orange Co., I just happened to read this morning that Ronnie had passed away. Although I never had the opportunity to work with Ronnie while he served as a Deputy with the Orange Co. Sheriff's Office, I will always remember him for his kind and gentle nature and above all his friendship. He undoubtedly was a great husband, father and family man. The entire Maddry family will always be fondly remembered by me.

Judy, it is unbelievable that Ronnie Maddry is no longer with us! His presence touched so many people near and far. Every Christmas we will remember him and his delicious country ham, which he, and only he, knew how to cure just perfectly. His humor cannot be duplicated, but will be discussed for years to come. You and Heather are in our prayers.

Dear Judy and Heather,
Ronnie was an extraordinary man. He showed us all what kindness is. It was a pleasure to know him. I was awed by his ability as a deputy and bailiff. He knew people and knew how to relate to them.
He was a man for all seasons who gave comfort, security, and help to thousands of people. Truly, it was an honor to know him.
We know he is in heaven now -- happy and at peace in a place where there is no sickness or pain -- and no need for any weapons.
