Obituary of Ronald E. Maddry

Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ronnie Maddry, 67, passed away on June 8, 2016 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on July 1, 1948, in Durham County, NC to the late Avery and Gwen Maddry of Chapel Hill, NC. Ronnie was a devoted husband to Judy and loving father to Coy (Deceased) and Heather. He touched the lives of all he met throughout his life. Ronnie started working at an early age, helping his dad with the family farm. He was able to support his family and be a prominent member of the community through his work as a produce manager at A & P, a bus driver for Chapel Hill Transit, and finally, as a deputy with the Orange County Sheriff's Department, retiring as a Sergeant. Ronnie took pride in his ability to maintain order in the courtroom while having a level of respect for each individual. In his spare time, Ronnie enjoyed cooking and serving barbeque to friends, co-workers, relatives, church family and other hungry souls. His humor and ability to make people laugh will remain with us forever. Survivors include Ronnie's wife, Judy, his daughter, Heather Maddry of Chapel Hill, his brother Bob (Janet) Maddry of Hillsborough, NC, his sister-in-law, Jerrie Blizzard Barwick of Kinston, NC, his uncle John (Shirley) Maddry of Chapel Hill, NC, his aunt Eloise Maddry Vaughn of Raleigh, NC, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his son, Coy. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM on June 11, 2016 at Orange United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. The Maddry family will receive family and friends at the church following the service and burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Coy Maddry Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Orange United Methodist Church 1220 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
