I first met Catherine in 2005 in Dr. Fred Brooks' Sunday School Class at Orange United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC. I thought, oh, if I could just be like her! (She was one of the loveliest, gentlest Christian ladies I had ever seen.) I got to know Catherine even better in a Beloved Women Bible Study I attended with her a few years ago. Catherine had grown even MORE beautiful, because she continued to be deep, gentle and kind in the midst of very difficult chronic health problems. I must say I was relieved to hear she died. NOW her glory shines fully in the presence of her Lord, and she is free of pain. I am honored to have known Catherine. I was also uplifted by the faithfulness of her son and his wife, Don and Dorothea, and her daughter, Ann. Their love and care for her were exemplary. Audrey Rabalais Durham, NC

My Mother is an extraordinary woman. I use the present tense because she still lives, just not here with us. She lives with her Savior whom she met as a youth so long ago! Mother grew up during the years of the Great Depression and World War II and she knew the hardships that came with those times. She was raised on a farm with a large and wonderful family and I'm sure she learned a lot from them! She said they didn't have much but they always had what they needed as she grew up. She learned how to work hard to earn the things she had and she taught my sister and I those lessons. She never did like to sit still when work needed to be done, she taught us what a servant attitude is all about. She lived out the values of honesty and integrity in her daily life. She provided discipline when my sister and I needed it and we knew she did it because she loved us. In fact, there never was a time when we haven't known she loved us! She once told me she didn't think she had done a good job of being our mother, but I disagreed! She was the best when it came to being a mother and I am grateful for all she has given me all the years of my life and I look forward to one day telling her so as we once again meet face to face! I pray that those who read this will meet her there where she is at this moment - the only way for that to happen is by following the Man she followed, Jesus! Don Neighbours

I loved Catherine's quiet dignity, good humor, and gentleness. I admired her courage and perseverance to interact with people, even when she was barely able to speak. I'm thankful for the part of a day I got to spend with her, enjoying her pleasure when I talked about what a good pastor her son Don is.
