Obituary of Catherine Patterson Neighbours

Catherine Patterson Neighbours passed into the arms of God on October 7, 2016, at her home in Hillsborough, NC after a lengthy illness. She was born on January 4, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Mr. Charles Edwin and Mary Catherine Patterson of Efland, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James G. Neighbours, her sisters, Rachel P. Lankford, Audrey P. Summerell, Rebecca P. "Becky" Parrish; and brothers, Vance A. Patterson, Tyson Patterson, and Tom Patterson. Catherine was devoted to her Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of Orange United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC, serving there for over 50 years. Mrs. Neighbours is survived by her two children, who loved her dearly: son Don Neighbours, (Dorothea), of Yorktown, VA, daughter Ann Neighbours Jessup of Graham, NC, and by her granddaughter Kate Jessup, (fiancé Andrew Humphries), of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by her brothers C.E. "Ed" Patterson Jr. (Shirley) of Burlington and George M. "Milton" Patterson (Judy) of Mebane, NC, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family will be forever grateful to Mrs. Neighbours' caregivers, Ms. Pattie Strickland, Ms. Mellonie Robertson and Ms. Laurie Hammonds for their kindness, compassion and loving care. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Walker's Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 PM Monday, October 10 at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough, NC with burial at the Hillsborough Town Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UNC Hospice or Heifer International (www.heifer.org ).
