Obituary of Roger Vick Atkins

Roger Vick Atkins of Hillsborough, North Carolina and Little River, South Carolina passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Judy Atkins, son Roger Atkins II (Stephanie) and daughter Caroline Lemire (John). He is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren: Connor Alexander, Alexa Camille and Addison Catherine Atkins and Lindsey Victoria and Lauren Josephine Lemire. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Atkins, of Efland, North Carolina. Roger was preceded in death by his father Homer Atkins and mother Edith Atkins. Mr. Atkins was a North Carolina native, growing up in the Sandhills region. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, completing a tour of duty in Cam Ranh Bay in the Khánh Hòa Province of Vietnam. He retired from Duke University where he worked for the Department of Psychiatry, Center for Aging, Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Family Support Network. He was the owner of Compliance Resources LLC, a company serving the pharmaceutical industry. Roger's greatest treasures were his children and grandchildren. He was a gentle and quiet spirit, an avid reader, a true intellect, a world traveler and a devoted UNC Tar Heel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Atkins Mabe Scholarship Fund at the UNC-Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity or church of choice. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Walker's Funeral Home, 204 N. Churton Street, Hillsborough, NC. Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough is honored to serve the Atkins family. "But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price." (1 Peter 3:4)
