Obituary of Ed Wilson Lloyd

Ed Wilson Lloyd, 72, of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024.  Ed was born on February 29, 1952 and was a proud resident of the White Cross community for the majority of his lifetime.  Ed attended White Cross School, which is now designated as a historical landmark. Ed married his forever wife, Christine Randolph Lloyd, in July 1971.  Ed was the hardest working man most of the people in his life had the honor of knowing.  He got up before the sun each day and eagerly headed out to the shop or the jobsite.  Ed taught his children and grandchildren his craft, sowing the seeds for a family grading and utilities company—each of his children work in the family business today.  Ed was a true artist—but he didn’t use a paintbrush, he used heavy equipment.  Love of machinery and earthwork runs deep, he loved riding heavy equipment with grandchildren and teaching them how to use each lever and control. 

When he wasn’t working, Ed could be found out at his Cabana by the pool with his dogs watching one of his favorite show, usually Cops—Possibly remembering a time (or three) when he gave the law a run for their money in his early years.  Ed loved grilling up a feast for friends and family with a Natural Light in his hand or peacefully fishing at his favorite fishing hole (also with a Natural Light in his hand).

Ed is survived by his wife, Christine, their sons, Thomas “Lewis” Lloyd (Lynn) of Haw River and Edward “Wesley” Lloyd (Nina) of Chapel Hill, and daughter, Jessica Lloyd Bailey (Mark) of Graham; their grandsons, Luke Lloyd, Lance Lloyd, Judge Lloyd, and Mattox Lloyd and granddaughters, Georgia Bailey and Norah Bailey; their fur babies, Cocoa and Lola.

Ed was predeceased by his parents Weston Warren Lloyd, Ruby K. Lloyd Coble, and his brothers,  Robert “Bobby” Warren Lloyd, Jerry Wayne Lloyd Sr., and Claude Lloyd   A service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8th at Antioch Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 12:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Antioch Baptist Church and White Cross Community Center.
