Bud was my Dad's 1st cousin whom I only saw in person a couple of times, but we corresponded for decades about our family history. He was such a nice man. I wish we'd lived closer to him. He always had interesting stories to tell. Thinking about him this Veterans Day weekend. RIP cousin Bud.

Marine Corps League posted a condolence
Saturday, December 31, 2022
To the family and friends of Marine Everettt "Bud" Hampton, on behalf of the Marines, FMF Corpsmen, FMF Navy Chaplains, and members of the Marine Corps League, Department of North Carolina and especially the few remaining Marines & Members of the Orange County Regulators Detachment #1292, we wish to express our sincere condolences on the passing of an outstanding Marine.
We, as Marines pride ourselves in never leaving a Marine behind, although admittedly we might not be the best when it comes to record-keeping and administrative tasks, as evidenced by this way-late post.
Please know that we will pray for repose of our beloved Marine's soul, as we pray for the repose of all of the dearly daparted.
I have submitted a Notice of Death through appropriate channels with the Marine Corps League and will share the obituary.
Marine Hampton will be honored during an upcoming national Marine Corps League meeting and should also appear in Taps section of a future Semper Fi magazine. Without objection, it would be my honor to submit for consideration for publication, the obituary in full, including his photo.
Please feel free to contact me, just go to www.mclcp.org or www.ncmcl.org for contact information.
"when we look on Heaven's scene..." we know that those streets are guarded by another United States Marine.
Fair Winds and Following Scenes Marine Everett "Bud" Hampton!
Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful to God, Corps, Country, Community, & Family)
Ooh-rah!
Sincerely & Respectfully,
Scott L Shermeyer, Paymaster - Dept. of NC, Marine Corps League

Dear Bud,
It really saddens me to learn of your passing.
Thank you for sharing your insights and materials for my research.
I really enjoyed the fellowship whe shared at all of the 4th Marine Division reunions.
You were amongst the few living links in my life to the WW2 era.
God Bless you for all eternity.

On Iwo Jima my Dad was a rifleman in a replacement draft and was assigned to Bud’s company (L-3-23) a few days after D-Day. Things were kind of hectic and they were never formally introduced. Bud was wounded a few days later. He was the only original officer in his company who was still in action when he was evacuated. The company continued fighting for about 3 more weeks. It wasn’t until almost 40 years later that my Dad and Bud got to know each other at many reunions of the Fourth Marine Division and L Company. They became close friends and stayed in touch by mail and by coast-to-coast phone calls between reunions. I first met Bud at one of the reunions and was awe-struck by what a natural leader he was. It is no surprise that he moved up the ranks so quickly. We became friends too and our last get together was at the Iwo Jima anniversary reunion at Camp Pendleton in 2017. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of the families of L Company and what they sacrificed for us and how grateful I am. In the attached picture from 2010 Bud is front and center.
