Barbara Darbra, as I affectionately called her, has been my friend for over 45 years. I met her when I moved into the duplex next door to where she lived on Stinson Street in Chapel Hill. I was a graduate student and she worked at the Intimate Bookshop. She introduced me to Jo Skeen Camp who became my roommate there in Chapel Hill. The 3 of us have been dear friends since those days and every 2 or 3 years I have tried to come to NC from Minnesota to visit. Each time I would come to NC, it was like I never left. Barbara Darbra was always smiling and happy and the 3 of us would talk for hours together. She would always fill us in on her family and I know she loved them very much. When we were in Chapel Hill together, we used to go pottery shopping in Sanford NC and find vegetables and fruits along the way. She introduced me to Mexican food at Tijuana Fats restaurant (!!) and gave me a thirst for good books that she would suggest. She was positively one of the nicest persons that I have ever met and gotten to know well. I am so very glad I was able to visit the last 2 summers and we had a wonderful time this past August when I came to visit Jo and Barbara Darbra. There is no doubt, I will love, miss and remember Barbara Darbra forever. I send my deepest condolences to her family.
