Obituary of John Steven Small

John Steven Small, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. He was the son of the late John Francis Small and Anne Wrenn Jones. Steve was a gentle giant with a big smile, a firm handshake, and a warm heart. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was fiercely devoted to his family and always put them first. He loved taking cruises and attending Carolina football games with them. He was employed by Duke Energy for the last 42 years, first as a lineman and then as an engineer. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elva Conley Small; a daughter Kathryn and a son, John, of the home; his mother Anne Jones of Whiteville, NC;sisters Deborah Small Hooker of Clayton, NC and Frances Small of Jacksonville, FL; one niece, Suzanne Hooker, of Raleigh, NC; his future son-in-law, Tarron Robinson of Chapel Hill; one aunt, one uncle and many cousins. A celebration of life service will be held at University Presbyterian Church, 209 E. Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, NC on Saturday, December 6th at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service.
