I learned of Ralph's death when I arrived at church this morning. I was saddened to hear of his passing, but am so very happy to have had a connection with him when teaching at Cameron Park Elementary. He was the kind of guy who embraced the positives in life and had a way of making you feel that you were a very special person in his life. Even though our paths hadn't crossed often in many years, I was always thrilled to run into him out and about in Hillsborough. He grew the most beautiful roses and gladly shared them. Sincere sympathy to his family. Thank you, Ralph Compton, for the ray of sunshine you placed in people's lives. You will be missed. Rest in Peace.

Ralph was a colleague, friend, and neighbor for many years. He cared deeply for his family, friends, and church, and was always doing favors for folks. His laugh was quick and contagious. He will be missed.

Ralph was an amazing multi-talented and compassionate/caring/helpful individual. He was one of the Central Office folks I worked with when I left UNC-CH and came to Orange Co. Schools to work more directly with kids. Ralph probably got a kick out of this "Yankee" who lived in Chapel Hill trying to make his way in Northern Orange Co.
But we got on extremely well, and learned a lot from each other, which probably made each of us more effective in our jobs. Our partnership got a boost when I returned one summer from my 1-month per year of non-employment to find that I lost my private office and was "bunked in" with Ralph. What a blessing that was! Ralph was a great resource to me because of how well he knew the community & its kids, and because of his human insights and tremendous dry wit.
I'll always have fond memories of Ralph, and am sure he will be missed by all of us!

What an amazingly talented individual! Such a pleasure to have known and worked with Ralph. Who else could have dealt with being a truant officer and still maintained such a sense of humor?! He will be greatly missed.

I am sorry about Ralph's passing. I have known Ralph for 38 years and worked with him. We always laughed about all the stories when he was Truancy Officer and would have to go out and pick up kids who missed the bus or just didn't want to go to school. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
