HILLSBOROUGH - John Edward Couch, 87, of Hillsborough, NC, peacefully passed away March 24, 2015 in Brookshire Nursing Facility in Hillsborough from natural causes. He was the son of Blanche and Gordon Couch of Durham and the husband of Dorothy R. Couch who passed July, 2014. He was also predeceased by his youngest son James Keith Couch in January 2010. He is survived by his daughter Karen C. Copeland and her husband, Steve, of Hillsborough and son John E. Couch, Jr. and his wife, Becky, of Raleigh. He is also survived by his dear sisters, Lucille King and Irene Godwin of Durham and his grandchildren John Andrew Couch of Richmond, VA and Laura Ann Couch of Wilmington, NC.
John was the owner of Couch Gulf Service and Couch Oil Company, both in Hillsborough, for decades and was a respected member of this close and lovely community. Christ found his way into his life and lead him on a journey that took him to minister to and help many of the Hillsborough correctional trustees to becoming alcohol free and devoted followers of the gospel. He loved each and every one of them as his own. His being a member of Bethel Christian Center and the friends that he loved there and beyond was a comfort and treasure that he relished every day. John's family wishes to extend a special "thank you' to all the care team and administrative members of Brookshire Nursing Center for their attention, expertise and excellent care they extended to our parents in their convalescence and departures.
Visitation will be at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough 6:30-8:30 PM Thursday, March 26. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church at 2 PM, Friday, March 27, by Pastor Rich Goodien and Rev. Don Westbrook. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, John would appreciate donations to Bethel Christian Center and Mt. Hermon Baptist Church so that their efforts can continue to be there for others that will follow him "home."
