Obituary of James Calton Simpson

James Calton "Jimmy" Simpson, 54, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 22, 2015. Jimmy died peacefully in his sleep at Durham Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born July 17, 1960 in Durham, NC. He graduated from Jordan High School in Durham, and attended UNC-Pembroke with a wrestling scholarship. Jimmy won many awards in wrestling and Judo, including national titles. Jimmy proudly served as a Deputy with the Durham County Sheriff's Department before retiring. He was well-respected by all who knew him. While in college, Jimmy pledged Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, which holds high values of moral character and a commitment to a life of caring for others. Jimmy lived his life as a True Pike. Jimmy served his community as a member of the Elk's Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Shriners. He always shared a smile and kind heart. Jimmy is predeceased by his parents, CJ and Melba Simpson of Durham. He is survived by a daughter, Christina Irby of Roxboro; and sisters, Lorraine Simpson of Durham, Carol Simpson Liberty of Raleigh, and Mary Simpson-Alford of Lynchburg, Va. A Memorial Service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be Friday, June 12, 2015 at 7 PM in the chapel at Walker's Funeral Home, 120 W Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC. The Simpson family will receive friends and family following the service at Walker's. A private burial was held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
