I was stunned and sad to learn John passed away. I was fortunate enough to work with John in the '80s and early '90s, cruising and marking timber. I admire John for his love of the land and his love for Jane. John was a tree planter and he carried the conservation ethic with him always. I remember watching Beetle Juice with John, Jane and my wife Kathy. My daughter remembers John's and Jane's chickens. We had laughs and cussed the briars of eastern North Carolina. We experienced a terrible summer lightening storm deep in a swamp, too far from the vehicle to do anything but hunker down. I miss his strong handshake and his laugh. A good friend. Be strong Jane. John filer loved life We spent a week together in Mexico with john and Jane a few years back and I will always remember john with the camera around his neck, enjoying life to the fullest. Kind and sweet, reserved but outspoken if needed, he loved nature and all she provides on this earth. We lost him but somewhere he lives on in spirt ,watching over Jane and those he held dear. Joan

John was never more present than at the annual art weekend each year at the Trinity Center. His music, his warm smile and his willingness to stop and talk no matter how many things he had to do. My friend John Filer, husband of Jane Filer, passed away Wednesday night after a brief but aggressive illness with cancer. He was a jewel of a man, always soft spoken, always in the background making a difference in whatever was happening. He was understated and extremely intelligent. We are really going to miss you John. Please do not post on Jane's page as all family members have not been notified.
