Dear Mrs Kwee and Family, As soon as I saw the photo (with his lovely smile), I recognized Dr Kwee as one of my doctors from forty plus years ago in Little Rock. I am so sorry for your loss! It is very evident from his obituary that you treasured him - I especially loved the description of him as a "goofball" and yes, I remember his infectious laugh! How I wish I had known he was retired to Chapel Hill - I earned my MSN there and was on faculty at UNC as a nurse practitioner over a 10 year period. I wish I had known because I would have liked to have thanked him for saving me from the pain and recovery of an exploratory laparotomy in 1977. Without giving you the gory details, he correctly diagnosed and corrected the cause of my increasing pain minutes before he was to have operated on me. I can to this day remember him saying "Lesley - I am going to try something - just don't kick me!" - I didn't and it worked! What a very special man and physician! You and he are in my thoughts and prayers! Sincerely, Lesley Dinwiddie

The Tan Family has known James and Sonny have for 40 years. James and Family was a supporting pillar during one of our most difficult times as new immigrants in America. We was a man of incredible generosity and we will always be extremely grateful for his friendship. James is a reflection of God's grace, helping others in his journey through life. A gift for many who were fortunate enough to have known him. We've chosen these two words "Grace" and "Gratitude" intentionally to describe James. Those words come from the same Latin root, gratia; the "favor" you do for someone else, the "thanks" that you give to them, a sign of your "gratitude". You will be remembered always for your BIG heart, laughter, energy and devotion to Family. Rest in Peace and God be with you my friend! The Tan Family

In 1988, I met James and Sonny Kwee because their son, Dave, and my son Larry became room mates at Duke University. In 1992, James and Sonny became Larry's parents-in-law when Larry and Ruth got married. Our lives intertwined as we became grandparents to 3 wonderful children, visited each other in California and in North Carolina and we became more like family than friends. Our family will miss his love, laughter, joy of living, and his loving kindness. God has enriched our lives through knowing James.

James Kwee was a faithful Christian, a good husband, a good father, a funny person who bold to say and do just about anything, facing the life challenges head on fearlessly, and to me, he was a good friend. We were friend for over 40 years, he was there for me in good times or bad times, I will miss him very much. Mina
