Obituary of Elizabeth Scott

Elizabeth Scott, 94, passed away on March 3, 2016. She was born in Black Creek, NC on January 12, 1922 into two large loving families, the Herndons and the Pearsons. She had eighteen caring aunts and uncles. Elizabeth went to high school in Newport News, VA. After graduation she married Edward Scott, a Master Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps. They were married for forty years. Edward Scott "Scotty" passed away in 1985. Elizabeth worked for NACA at Langley Field, VA. She traveled with Scotty as a military wife from Virginia to Maine, to Bermuda, to New York and to California. After Scotty retired from the service they settled in Chapel Hill, NC. Elizabeth began a 30 year career at the University of North Carolina in the graduate school for the Department of Nutrition under the supervision of Dr. Edozien and Dr. and Mrs. Bryant. She attended Lystra Baptist Church. She taught nursery and Bible School and was a member of the WMU. She was a loving daughter, wife and mother. Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Margaret Blake; daughter, Sharon Scott Geran; son, John Scott; grandchildren, Issa Geran, Heather Scott, and Jonathan Scott; great-grandchildren, Amina, Justice and Chaya. John and Sharon, thank Elizabeth's Daughter in Law, Tonya Scott for the overseeing care and devotion during her dementia, heart attack and Alzheimer's disease. Tonya's patience, organizing, and giving of herself in the care of our mother is greatly appreciated. Elizabeth loved the hymn, The Old Rugged Cross . Please remember her in your prayers and singing. She said of herself "I Danced through life". We will miss her. The funeral service will be 3 PM Sunday, March 6 at Lystra Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, Pittsboro. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM Saturday March 5 at Walker's Funeral Service, Chapel Hill. In Lieu of Flowers the family request that donations be made to the Alzheimer's North Carolina, 1305 Navaho Dr., Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609.
