Obituary of John Wallace Zimmerman

John Wallace Zimmerman, 76, of Chapel Hill, NC died March 2, 2016. John was born on June 3, 1939 in Round Rock, TX to the late Emil Carl Zimmerman and Ida Auguste (Minzenmayer) Zimmerman. After graduating as valedictorian of his high school class, he attended the University of Texas where he received a degree in Meteorology. He worked for the National Weather Service for 33 years in Waco, TX, Knoxville, TN, Little Rock, AR and Atlanta, GA. He was an avid gardener and held interests in classical music, photography and fishing. He had an affinity for felines and one was never far, whether he was working in his garden or napping on the sofa. He treasured being a father and grandfather. John is survived by his wife, Sue Franklin Zimmerman; daughter Kristin Johnston; son Mark Zimmerman; sister Lillian Israel; two granddaughters; and a grandson. John was preceded in death by sister, Anna Bauer, and brothers Conrad, Edward, Leonard, Rhinehart, Theodore, and Walter Zimmerman.
