Obituary of Christopher Jon Read

Christopher Jon Read, 49, of 993 Gilmore Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516, passed away at his home on Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2016. Chris was born on June 6, 1966, in Springfield, IL., but spent most of his youth in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was an entrepreneurial spirit and worked in many fields. He was a carpenter, a farmer, a diver and eventually ran his own IT Support computer business. His greatest role was father and husband, but he was also an amazing son, brother and wonderful friend to all. He is survived by his wife Lisa and daughter Lanna, mother and father, Linda and Tom Read; brothers, Nathaniel Read and wife Sherri, Richard Ho and wife Trang, Ben Read and wife Heather and Michael Read; sisters, Elizabeth Levant and husband Bill, Van O'Neill and husband CJ, Jennifer Giles and husband Ben; nephews, Elijah, Harrison, Will, Jake, Alex, Ryland, Ethan and Rex; nieces, Lauren, Cailyn, Meghan, Christina, Jenna, Jessica, and Sarah Jane, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Donald and Marjorie Schantz and Reginald and Jessie Read. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 20th, at Reid and Vicky Hilton's "Camp Pow Wow", located at 488 Poythress Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. The reverend Jim Jones will officiate. Those wishing to share thoughts of Chris at the service are welcome. Chris was cremated and ashes will be spread later at the locations of his choice. In lieu of flowers, those interested may make donations to his daughter Lanna's college fund.
