Obituary of James Edwin Taylor

James "Sam" Taylor passed Saturday afternoon April 9th at UNC Hospital. He was 90 years old and was a lifelong resident of Chapel Hill. He was married to Carolyn Buice Taylor for 65 years. His mother was Madge Williams. He was predeceased by his brother Phillip Taylor. He served as Sergeant Squad Leader in the 63rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in World War II. He participated in battles of Ardennes, Alsace, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He worked as the manager of the famous meat department at Fowler's Food Store on West Franklin Street for 30 years. He went on to work at the Cross Roads Restaurant in the Carolina Inn until he retired. He served as Commander in Chief and was a sustaining member for over 50 years at the American Legion Post 6 in Chapel Hill. He was also a member of the CH-C Jaycees and the Roosters. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling to Army reunions and to Cherry Grove beach in South Carolina. He is survived by his son, Ronald Samuel Taylor and his grandchildren, Zachary James Taylor and Morgan Elizabeth Taylor. Graveside Service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetary Legion Road Thursday April 14th at 2pm.
