Eugene Price was like a grandfather to me. I lost my grandfather at a young age and at that time I didn't realize the importance of talking with our older generation to hear the stories of how they grew up..... and then I met Eugene. We had many meals together (because he hated eating alone) and it was during these meals that we had our best conversations. He would share with me stories of growing up as a boy in Alabama, how he came to reside in North Carolina and how he met his wife Yvonne (whom he missed terribly after she lost her battle with cancer). I truly loved hearing all of his stories and I am going to miss him more than he will ever know. Rest in Peace Eugene. I will love you always and look forward to when we meet again. Life will not be the same without you on this earth but I know that you are in a better place and finally reunited with the wife and daughter you loved and missed so much.

Eugene lived across the street from us. He and his wife, Yvonne used to bring us vegetables from their big garden next to his house. Eugene told me many stories that related to the Hillsborough Military Academy that used to be located only two blocks away on Barracks Road. He said that, during the Civil War, the cadets had a sunken area where his garden was that was fed by the nearby stream. During the winter in filled with water and iced over. The academy used it for a supply of ice for the school. He had a lot of tales from his early days and we had a nice friendship. We'll miss him.
