Obituary of Charles E. Rochelle

Charles E. Rochelle, 90, of Chapel Hill, died peacefully May 28, 2016, at Brookdale Chapel Hill, a memory care facility. He was born in Orange County on May 20, 1926, and was a graduate of Orange County High School. He served his country in World War II in the 47th Infantry, 9th Division, where he earned the Bronze Star. For many years after, he served as a member of the North Carolina National Guard. He was an active, lifelong member of New Hope Presbyterian Church. He loved Tar Heel basketball and was a loyal fan. He was a fan of country music and loved his dogs and cats. He worked for 35 years at Liggett & Myers Tobacco Factory in Durham, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Glosson Rochelle. He is survived by his children, David Rochelle, and wife Gwinn of Wilmington, Warren Rochelle and partner Gary Nelson of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Barry Rochelle and wife Lori of Durham, and Greg Rochelle and wife Julie of Durham, and four grandchildren, Heather, Jonathan, Daisy and Sam. The funeral will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at New Hope Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends, Monday, May 30, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill, 120 W. Franklin St. Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
