Obituary of Roy Strowd Lloyd

Roy Strowd Lloyd, 88, son of the late Harrod Carl and Nellie Durham Lloyd passed away at home Monday, May 30, 2016 following several months of declining health. A lifetime resident of the White Cross Community, Roy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was also a loving brother, uncle and good neighbor. A graduate of Chapel Hill High School, he was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Chapel Hill for 30 years before retiring in 1987 and enjoyed a lifetime of part-time farming. He loved working the land, producing and sharing the fruits of his labor. Roy was an avid UNC Tar Heel and Atlanta Braves fan. He treasured fall surf fishing at Emerald Isle with family and friends. Roy is survived by his daughter, Dale Lloyd Andrews (Everette); son, Roy Strowd Lloyd, Jr., (Denise): a grandson, James Lloyd Andrews: granddaughters, Lindsay Nell Lloyd, and Jamie Lloyd Vinson (David): great grandchildren, Avery and Evan Andrews and Hadley and Henry Vinson. In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Beryl Ward Lloyd, a grandson: Mitchell Reed Andrews and a sister, Julia Lloyd Durham. Roy was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church, 1707 White Cross Road, Chapel Hill NC where funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following interment. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church Men's Club for mission projects or the church cemetery fund.
