Obituary of Margaret Lee Moore

Margaret Lee Moore Dr. Margaret Lee Moore, 94, of Chapel Hill, NC passed away on June 15, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents George Rieves and Lalla Patterson Moore and brothers George R. Moore, Jr. (Rieves), Ralph P. Moore and Robert C. Moore, a half-brother Richard M. Moore and by her special friend Mabel Parker. She is survived by her brother Howard W. Moore of Paxton, MA, five nieces, six nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Born July 8, 1921 in Greensboro, North Carolina, she grew up in Richmond, Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education, American history, and general science from Madison College (now James Madison University), her Master of Arts degree in physical therapy from the Medical College of Virginia, and her Doctor of Education degree from Duke University. She was a World War II veteran, a Captain in the US Army, where she began her distinguished career in physical therapy. "Dr. Moore was an educator of great vision and strong voice all her career for the physical therapy profession and for the University of North Carolina. Dr. Moore's involvement with UNC-Chapel Hill began in 1952 when she was recruited to become the first-ever chief of the Department of Physical Therapy at NC Memorial Hospitals (now UNC Hospitals). From 1957-1974, she served as director for the Division of Physical Therapy, one of seven divisions within the UNC School of Medicine's Department of Allied Health Sciences. As an assistant dean of the UNC School of Medicine, she played an important role in establishing the Department of Medical Allied Health Professions, thus assuring close links between the various allied health disciplines, clinicians, and teachers in the school's clinical and basic science departments." Guests should come to the Main Entrance of Carol Woods.
