Obituary of Ann Ligett

Ann Hartwell Ligett November 11, 1919-June 15, 2016 Chapel Hill Ann Ligett, 96, passed away peacefully at Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, surrounded by family, on June 15, 2016. Ann was born in Syracuse, NY and raised in Ohio. She attended Antioch College where she met her husband to be, Gus. Ann and Gus were married in 1940. While raising five sons, Ann returned to Wayne State University and received a Masters in Library Science. She chose to work in municipal and school libraries for several years, especially enjoying the research role which suited her constant curiosity. She was an accomplished artist and continued to paint and take classes throughout her life. Upon Gus's retirement in 1981, Ann and Gus alternated between homes in Vermont and Florida until 1995 when they moved to Carolina Meadows. They traveled abroad frequently during retirement. Much of the travel was focused on Ann's art classes and visiting family. Ann is survived by five sons, Robert and his wife, Shari Ligett of Chapel Hill, NC, John and his wife Carol of East Grand Rapids, MI, Mike and his wife, Cathy Ward of Raleigh, NC, Steve and Doris LaMontagne of North Thetford, VT, Dan and his wife, Susan Stefanec of Amherst, NH; and nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. As well as sister-in-law Barbara Ligett and the families of her late sister Carolyn Stumpf, late brother John Hartwell, late brother-in-law, Robert E. Ligett. The family appreciates the skilled and compassionate care provided at Carolina Meadows. Family memorial service plans are not yet complete.
