Obituary of Lacy Ward

Lacy "Joe" Ward, 74, of Walnut Grove Church Road, passed away at his home on June 27, 2016. After serving his Country for 2 years in the US Army, he built his life in Hillsborough, NC. He enjoyed working on his farm with his cows, welding, watching sports, especially Duke Basketball, and raising his 3 girls. He could be seen riding through Orange County and never met a stranger. He worked at Piedmont Minerals for 34 years; and he enjoyed passing his considerable maintenance and welding knowledge to his nephews, grandsons, and others in the community. Joe is survived by his wife of 46 years, Katherine Cash Ward, three daughters: Leslie W. Brooks (David) of Hurdle Mills, Allison W. Newcomer (Kenneth) of Mebane, and Janice W. Carter (Britt) of Bear Creek, five grandsons: Dawson Brooks, Dylan Brooks, Mason Newcomer, William Carter, and Joseph Carter; and his favorite granddaughter, Kenley Newcomer; four sisters: Janice Ward of Hillsborough, Anne W. Goldman of New Bern, Hazel W. Reavis (Jack) of Cary, Judy Parker (Jimmy) of Snow Camp, two brothers Willard Ward (Melvia) of Hillsborough, and Sam Ward (Linda) of Hillsborough, along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Helen Ward, and one sister Helen Annette Ward Johnstone and her husband John. All are welcome to celebrate his life at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 29, at Little River Presbyterian Church, 4211 Little River Church Road, Hurdle Mills NC 27541. The family will be receiving friends and family from 2 - 3 pm and following the funeral in Latta Hall. At any time, friends and family are all welcome to visit the home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Little River Presbyterian Church.
