Obituary of Gloria K Fish

Gloria K. Fish, died peacefully on Friday August 5, at Carolina Meadows Retirement Community, in Chapel Hill, NC. It had been her home for the last fifteen years. She was 91. Gloria was born in Grand Rapids, MI but spent most of her life in both Albion and Rochester, NY. She graduated from Brighton High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Rochester. In 1946, she married David Basye of Rochester. They had three children. When David died unexpectedly at age 41, Gloria went back to the U of R and earned her teaching certificate. She was a volunteer at both Rochester General Hospital and the Rochester Friendly Home. She married Farley G. Fish in 1966, and in 1985, they moved to Sanford, NC. where they spent fifteen happy retirement years. They spent their summers on Cayuga Lake, in upstate NY. Gloria enjoyed playing golf, tennis, sailing and traveling with Farley. Gloria was a member of the Chapel Hill PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization). She is survived by her children Joan Jordan (Mark), Anne Harris (Rich), James Basye and her stepson Grant Fish (Jaye). She is also survived by her grandchildren Kym Jordan, Heather Teass (Tyler), Alex Harris, Elizabeth Harris and Bethany Fish. The family plans to celebrate Gloria's life at her beloved cottage "Gloria's Place" on Cayuga Lake. Internment will be at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Union Springs, NY.
