It was a pleasure Luke. It took some doing, but we got it done.
I hope you know what a pain it was rehearsing with your aunt and uncle listening in. They were laughing at us.
We managed to pull it off with short notice. I think we did you justice, but i think it could have been done better.
Find your peace in the stars Toru. I wish you the best on your next journey.

Luke was one of my former students and was a wonderful musician to work with. He was ALWAYS there and always worked to be a better person each and every day. I always admired how he rode his bike to school with his instrument in hand, regardless of the weather. His dedication to all he undertook is remarkable and I will always remember how he talked so fondly about being in the Army. Luke, you were a model student, model citizen and you will be missed.
Musically,

Luke came to my classroom his freshman year of high school with a Robert Jordan Wheel of Time book tucked under his arm and an instrument case on his back. I knew then that I liked this kid. Luke rode over a mile on his bike to school through all weather with his instrument and never complained….something I will always admire. It wasn't long before he and his friends made my classroom their preferred hangout spot at lunch as we discussed philosophical questions like, 'Could a Utopian world exist without a dystopian counterpart?', Who had the most awesome space marines in Warhammer 30k?', 'Was the final book in the Wheel of Time series worthy of the Robert Jordan world?', and of course...video games. After Luke enlisted, he shared hilarious stories about boot camp and what life was like in the military all while we tried to rank up in video games. Generous to his friends and one of the most kind and sharing hearts of any person I've known, he even offered multiple times to build me a new computer and let me pay him back 'whenever I could'. He didn't just 'play video games' he loved the players and the imaginary worlds they created. I truly regret that I lost contact with him over the past six months and wish I could have been there to mentor him when he needed it. To his family, thank you for raising such a wonderful person that I could call. not just a great student….but a great friend.

The measure of a man is not how he died, but how he lived. Luke Sears/CMDR Toru was a Marine. He was a warrior. The outpouring of respect and love from those who knew him only as a fictional starship pilot is a testament to his character.
Though he has passed beyond our stars, he will be forever remembered by those who called him their comrade, as they explored those very same stars in the expanse. His honor and his spirit will live on and be remembered in the stars on the flag shoulder of his brothers and sisters in uniform.
Never have I meant it more when I type the iconic phrase of Elite players:
O7, Commander.
And as a US Army soldier, to my brother in the Marine Corps... We'll take it from here.
"Fear no more, the heat o' the sun, nor the furious winter's rages;
Thou thy worldly task hast done; home art gone, and ta'en thy wages."
-William Shakespeare; from "Cymbeline"
RIP brother. Per Aspera, Ad Astra.

It's always painful to lose someone in such a way. From what I read, Luke was a genuinely nice person and though I never knew or met him, it appears he and I shared many of the same views on respect, compassion and simple human dignity.
The world lost someone great and we're all a bit less for it, but he's in a better, happier and less painful place now and that's all that matters.

I have never met Commander Toru, neither in a game, nor in real life. However, after reading about him, I discovered that we share two things: a name and a passion.
Sharing a first name means we lived through some of the same jokes, and experienced some things the same way.
Sharing a passion means we had similar activities, and our thoughts were guided by the same light.
Only two words: "Luke" and "space". These words mean I won't forget this man that I never met.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I've been quiet for a long time because I just had no idea what to say..
Luke was one of my best friends, and my boyfriend for a little over a year. We got together June 15, 2015, and it ended July 20, 2016. We stopped talking around July 30, 2016.
He was a gamer and loved sci-fi and anything to do with outer space. He could talk about it for hours and hours, and he'd never seem to get bored of it. He loved playing Space Engineers, Minecraft, League of Legends (when he has friends to play with as well), and many other games with a Steam library over 500.
He was good at programming, enjoyed reading, and loved cats.
@Luke: I miss you, and I think about you all the time. You were there for me for a long time, and I couldn't be there for you. I wish this never happened, and that you would still be here today.. I miss you, and I love you, and that will never stop.

I shared a couple classes with Luke in high school-- I had a big crush on him actually. Recently I thought of him and wondered what he was up to, and I was devastated to hear what had happened. He was so strong, so kind, and so intelligent. Rarely do you come across someone whose strength is accompanied by such a good heart, but that was Luke. He had the kindest eyes, too. We were in a science club together and I remember him having the most innovative ideas. What a unique and brilliant mind. Rest in peace. The world is worse off without you.
