Mary Sue Roberts Terry, age 87 passed away at Presbyterian Home of Hawfields in Mebane, NC on September 2, 2016 following a long journey through Alzheimer's Disease.
Sue was born in Orange County and lived in Hillsborough all of her life. She is the daughter of the late Charles L. and Eunice (Anderson) Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Jones Terry and one brother Warren Roberts.
Sue earned her nursing degree from Watts School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Watts and Duke Hospital, and for an oral surgeon in Durham, NC for several years. Sue retired from Orange High School after working in food and nutrition services. Sue had a passion for gardening. She loved viewing God's creations and would watch the hummingbirds as she spent hours tending to her flowers. Known for her "top secret" cheesecake recipe, Sue took absolute delight in baking and cooking for family and friends who gathered at her home. Sue was so easy to love, in part because she always showered her love on others. Sue is described as courageous, exceptionally kind, gentle, thoughtful and always a giver of warm hugs. She will be remembered honorably and missed by all that knew her.
Sue had great faith and compassion for her Lord and Savior. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsborough, NC where she cherished her church family; especially her Sunday school class.
Sue is survived by her three sons Michael J. Terry (Faye); Steven W. Terry (Nancy) all of Hillsborough, NC and Vincent L. Terry of Wilmington, NC; three grandchildren, Denise Moore (Tony); Tracy Lambert (Jimmy); Steven W. Terry Jr. (Sarah) ; four great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Roberts of Durham, NC and Charles W. (Winkey) Roberts (Louise) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; two sisters, Jeannette Wagoner Hillsborough, NC and Anne Connolly (Charles) of Haw River, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Mrs. Terry gratefully acknowledges the warm, wonderful care extended to her by the staff of Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, Alamance Hospice and care provided by special family members.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 6:30 to 8:30 at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough. A memorial service will be officiated by Dr. Randy Carter at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Chapel Hill.
