Mebane - James Albert Wade, Sr., 91, died Sunday, October 2, 2016. He was born in Caswell County and moved to Orange County at an early age. He was a 1943 graduate of Aycock High and married Rachel Phelps in 1943. He was in the U.S. Navy on the USS Shea until WWII ended. He returned to Orange County and began his farming career in tobacco until retirement. He was a strong caring family man and very active in Carr United Methodist Church. He was a fan of Nascar and the Atlanta Braves. He was a member of Prospect Hill American Legion and a past member of Cedar Grove Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his daughter, Cindy W. Shambley, two sons, Jerry L. Wade (Myra) and James A. Wade, Jr. (Jackie), four grandchildren: Todd Wade (Lori), Melissa W. Turbeville (Steven), Wade Shambley, and Rachel Shambley (Josh); five great grandchildren: Brandon, Mattie, Sara, Hallie, and James; his sister, Harris Sharpe, and his sister-in-law, Irene Wade. He was predeceased by his wife, Rachel Phelps Wade, his parents, Jessie H. and William Henry Wade, Sr., and two brothers: Jack Wade and Bill Wade.
The funeral will be held 11 AM Wednesday in Carr United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Byrd. Burial will be in Carr UMC Cemetery. Visitation will follow the services.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields for the loving care they provided their father during the past 14 months. They also would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Critical Care Unit and the Pallative Care Unit at Duke Regional Hospital for the amazing care they provided.
