Obituary of Betty Louise Marks

Betty Louise Marks, 89, of Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, NC died August 27, 2013. Betty was the daughter of the late Hilary and Louise Womble Marks. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1942 and the University of North Carolina in 1946 where she was a member of the tennis team. Following graduation, she did social work at the Department of Public Welfare in Mecklenburg County. She returned to Chapel Hill after a year and was employed by the University of North Carolina where she remained until her retirement in 1977. While at the University she worked in the School of Public Health, Business Manager's Office and the School of Dentistry. She was Project Coordinator, Environmental Sciences & Engineering Design with worldwide distribution for the School of Public Health. She moved to Carolina Meadows, a retirement center in Chapel Hill, in 1990. She was a former member of Carrboro United Methodist Church and a longtime member of University United Methodist Church, Chapel Hill where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, sang in the choir for many years and was a past member of the Church Board.
She is survived by three nephews, Dan Jr., Scott and David Marks and three great nephews, Zachery, Richard and Sam Marks and one great niece Natalie Marks.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill. A private family burial will follow the service that afternoon.
