Dear Linda and Family,
Neil was an amazing man and I knew him in several ways; first as the good friend of my sister, Wanda, and brother-in-law, Bob, then as the principal of my children's school, and last as a dear friend of mine. Steve and I enjoyed traveling to Greece with Neil, Linda, Kate and Megan and to Ireland with Neil and Linda. So sorry for the loss of this wonderful man!

Neil and I had many a lunch together where we agreed to disagree about the importance of national educational standards, he for them, and me against them. I remember he had a wonderful sense of humor and we had many a good laugh together.
We were both very liberal on politics which mean we were very compatible on this outlook. He was a mentor to many of our students studying to become school prinicpals. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Linda and family,
Thoughts and prayers coming your way now and in the future from the entire Huff family. Neil was wonderful, as generous in all senses of the term as he was kind. I know he has already found a place in a celestial choir- and is probably amusing all around him even as he contributes mightily to joyous sounds.

Neil and I had so much in common, not just our first name. Baseball, hamburgers, progressive politics, children who faced struggles, a bizarre sense of humor. We met 15 years ago and almost from the beginning he was someone with whom I could talk endlessly. I guess that explains our regular four-hour lunches.
But even as great a talker as he was, Neil was a better listener. He genuinely wanted to know about how everyone was doing. He cared. He had such empathy -- for me, for the waitress at the hamburger place, for the 7-year-old sitting next to him at the ballgame. He was voracious -- for information, for contact with others, for travel, for life.
My wife Carol and I will miss him greatly.

Neil and I served on a committee together and it was at the end of our work that he said to me, "Why don't you become a principal?". This began a friendship/mentor ship that I hope served us both. I try daily to emulate the beautiful way he could give it to you straight, but remove the sting of necessary truth with his kindness and grace. He came to meet me for lunch one day at Saint Thomas More Catholic School, where I was doing my administrative internship, and he pulled me over to sit on a bench in the lobby area. He asked simply, "What do you see?" I responded exactly the way he thought I would, "A trophy case, classroom doors, a bulletin board..." He held up his hand to stop me and asked, "Where is God? When people walk through these doors, they will see that you value sports, but where is God?". This moment, along with so many others like it, are burned in my memory and carried out in my daily ministry. I hope to make him proud in all that I do. I take comfort in the fact that Neil knew the answer to his own question and allowed his faith to guide him through each day... sitting on his porch at the beach, just talking to his God.

Dear Linda and family:
We were so saddened to learn of Neil's passing and want you to know that the Pikes are remembering you in this time of sorrow. We send our deepest sympathy and affection.
Neil was a dear friend through the chorus. We always sat together in rehearsals! He was such fun for me. We shared a love of baseball and had a great time traveling to Atlanta for ball games and a tour of the MLK museum. Neil's work for RSI meant so much to us with our son Andrew working there.
May you all find the peace of God and strength in family ties in the difficult time.
Having just had bypass surgery, I doubt that I will be able to attend the service for Neil on Nov. 15th. But know that Susan and Andrew and I will all be with you in spirit.
With our deepest affection and sympathy,
Jim, Susan and Andrew Pike
