You can see from this photo that Kim and I had a lifelong relationship. Our mothers were sisters. We were born less than a year apart and grew up within a mile of each other. Over time, we became more like sisters than cousins. Kim's presence and significance are woven into the fiber of my being. While I can no longer hear her laughter, I feel her presence every day. I just wish she could tell me about this new adventure. I am convinced that she lives on in some other realm or dimension.

Ms. Page was my art teach at DSA back in 2001-2003, and boy did she push me! I have always loved art and she was wonderful at pushing her students to be better. It was especially important in my later years at DSA. After graduation I went on to NYC to get my BFA at Pratt Institute and now own my own company where I use my design skills every day. She was a part of my journey and I am thankful to her for that. Rest in Peace.

Words never adequately express feelings, especially when they are words of condolence. Kim would understand exactly how limited words are as a conveyance for such feelings. Her art is proof.
I had to be very careful about selection of friends, because of my profession. There were not many people with whom I could be off-guard. Kim was one. She became a friend, along with others in what I came to think of as "the crew," and she continues to be my friend, although now only in non-corporeal form.
There is a little room in my head where friends exist. I can visit them any time. I can continue interrupted conversations. I can recall with them memories that caused laughter, tears, sometimes anger. I can almost, though not quite, feel their handshakes, and hugs, and New Year's kisses at midnight. Kim is there.
Her wicked wit made me laugh. Her knowledge, particularly of art and artists and museums, engaged and challenged me. She argued well and stood her ground. I found her politics almost entirely agreeable -- a rare thing for me. She almost always brought flowers to every gathering of the crew. She always brought a certain merriment that raised spirits.
All of us will look at the door sometime after the last person has arrived for yet another gathering, expecting her to come in a little late, as she usually did. We will expect to see her with flowers in her hand and a gentle smile on her face. She will always be in our heads.
She was my friend.

Kim was my favorite teacher at Durham School of the Arts. I took her classes from sixth grade all the way through senior year of high school. She was one of the most supportive, compassionate and influential teachers I had, forever encouraging me to pursue my art into college. I kept in touch with Kim after high school and would always update her on the progress of my art. All of my major accomplishments in art always make me think of Kim, because she was my biggest supporter and best teacher. I will always hold a special place for her in my heart and will truly miss her.

My dear friend Kim....I will miss your smile and wicked sense of humor. Always fun while we were still in NC, and quite a few long telephone conversations after we moved to AZ. So much art and so little time.....

I'll always remember the twinkle in Kim's eye whenever she spoke of anything having to do with the sixties. She kept the spirit of those times alive and she was so much fun to be with because of it. I will miss her very much.

I shall miss her and her quick wit. She and I always had fun teasing each other in a satirical way, sort of trading jabs. We always enjoyed the other one topping us! She was a good friend and fun to be with.

Kim and I shared road trips to Penland and NCCAT--sang along to all the "oldies" on the radio, enjoyed the colors and details of creating books and art, had fun together. /Users/bkreutzberg/Desktop/photo.JPG

Billy Bruce and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the loss of Kim. During my visit with her in August, she said several times that you were a grand and supportive brother. Like Rody and myself, the two of you were so very close because there was just the two of you; you were her hero.
For many years I was sadly out of touch with my Orange County cousins but certainly remembered you and Kim. Susan has filled me in on the wonderful friendship that they enjoyed as well as some of Kim's life experiences and her many artistic talents. I think that we could have had some great times together and especially terrific conversation.
I admire the person that she was and the way she faced her illness.
May your good memories give you peace. She loved you deeply.

Kim was a friend and a mentor to me at Durham School of the Arts. We taught together from the start in 1995. Her love of the students, and for the school was always evident.
Her love of plants and pens was infectious. Her beautiful hand writing, her way with pastels, pencils and paint led many students into the art fields she loved. We will miss her. Larry Downing
