Obituary of Barbara Jean Coulter Harris

Chapel Hill - Barbara Jean Coulter Harris, 82, of Chapel Hill, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance - Caswell, with her family by her side. She was born June 30, 1934, to the late Robert Augustus and Princess Mull Coulter of Valdese, NC. Barbara was a loving wife, mother and Grandmother. She retired from Chapel Hill/OB Gyn after 20 years of service. Barbara was an active member of Orange United Methodist Church for almost fifty years, and loved to travel, especially on her yearly trip to the beach. She enjoyed gardening and watching birds, especially the hummingbirds. She was passionate about her family, and especially loved her grandchildren. In her later years, Barbara spent her time bowling in her senior league, participating in water aerobics, and spending time with her dearest friends. Barbara is survived by her daughters: Toni (Michael) Martin of Hickory, NC; and Lisa (Todd) Ward of Mebane, NC; her brother R.A. (Dot) Coulter of Valdese, NC; her sisters-in-law: Becky (Bud) Little of Conover, NC; and Betty (Dyke) Annas of Hickory, NC; and four grandchildren: Chelsea (Ryan) Rowe, Courtney Martin, Kaitlyn Ward, and Dylan Ward. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, John Dolan Harris and her sister Libby Going. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Orange United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, November 18, at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance - Caswell.
