Earl Henry Apple of Hillsborough NC passed away at his home on December 6, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
Earl is survived by his best friend and companion, Grace Underwood and her family, J.C. Apple (brother) and Susie Isley, Faye Apple (sister) of Hillsborough, stepdaughters Della V Griffith, Rebecca V Simmons, Jean V Harris (all of South Carolina) and their families including grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece, Sherry Apple Wimberley (Mark) and Mark Apple (Cynthia) and Jeff Apple, and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Apple, his wife, Dinah E Vaughan Apple, and his younger brother, Avery Allen Apple. He leaves numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins to cherish his memory.
Earl served in the US Navy from 1962-1971 on aircraft carriers that took him all over the world including Vietnam and Panama Canal. After his military service, he was employed by Craftique Furniture and worked 33 years for Chapel Hill Carrboro City School until his retirement at age 72.
The family wishes to acknowledge with grateful appreciation Dr. John Strickler, Evan Dropkin, PA and the GI team at Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as the chemotherapy team, especially Jason, who took great care of him. A special thanks is given to Luke Wagner and Caleb Wagner (his great nephews) for their strength and care of Earl during these past few months. We wish to acknowledge our love and appreciation to all of our family and friends who have lended support and care.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 9, 2016 at Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough, they will receive friends and family Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Walker's, 204 N. Churton St. Hillsborough, NC.
