Obituary of Samuel Green Huff

January 9, 1927-December 17, 2016 Chapel Hill - Samuel Green Huff died at Brookdale of Durham on Saturday, December 17th. He is predeceased by his parents, Macie Hill Huff and William McGregory Huff; four brothers: Ollie Hill, Julian Gaston Huff, Robert Lee Huff, and William Gregory Huff. Sam is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Doris Ward Huff, and two children: Ronald Gregg Huff (Susan) and Donna Huff Harward (Steve); three grandsons: Shannon Greene Harward (Sara), Seth Derel Harward, Brandon Alben Lokey and Samuel Shelton Huff; and five great grandchildren: Phoebe Elloree Harward, Asher Greene Harward, Sara Margaret Harward, Hattie Lyles Harward, and Beau Duckworth Harward as well as several nieces and nephews. A lifelong resident of Chapel Hill, Sam never met a stranger. He served as a staff sergeant in the 351st Infantry Regiment in Italy in WWII, enjoyed a successful career in sales with Long Meadow Farms, Inc. and Flavorich, Inc., served as president of the Chapel Hill Carrboro Merchants Association, the Chapel Hill Exchange Club, and was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. Sam was an active member of University Baptist Church for thirty years. Upon retirement, he and Doris moved to the White Cross community where Sam pursued his passion for farming and enjoyed the fellowship of Antioch Baptist Church. A celebration of Sam's life will be held at Antioch Baptist Church at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21st, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UNC Memory Disorders Program, c/o Dr. Daniel Kaufer, Department of Neurology, 170 Manning Drive, CB# 7025, Chapel Hill, NC 27599.
