Russ was an extraordinary man. He was loved by many and his smile was contagious. I met Russ through The Burlington Shag Club and shared many laughs with him and Dawn. Russ and I talked about many things and his deep love for his family, friends, and music was what impressed me more than anything about him. No words can ease the pain of this loss but my fervent hope is that our Heavenly Father provide you with his peace, and through his presence, you realize his comfort in the days ahead. Brenda Smith

Russ wrote some great shag songs and I enjoyed dancing to them. He will be sorely missed. Anna and family, please know that the many people who knew him will always think about him when they hear his songs being played. I will never forget where he always sat at the bar in our Burlington Shag Club, just listening to the music being played by the DJ. Keep warm, loving memories in your heart in the days to come.

We met Russ through the Eno Beach Shag Club some years ago. In fact, I was one of the original Jelly Roll Band Members for a short time. We had so many good times with Russ and many other members of the Eno Beach Shag Club. Russ was such a kind person. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. Our paths somewhat took separate ways; however, I have never forgot our good times. I pray the peace of God will be with Russ's family as well as Dawn. Russ and I met through Eno Beach Shag Club in the early 90's. From that first day I have admired him with great joy. He was a kind and gentle man who never met a stranger. His smile was infectious, his devotion to his family and friends was astounding. We lost contact in recent years but I followed him through Dawn Lewis. I was not aware of his illness and his death was a total shock to me. I'm so sad but so glad he is no longer suffering. May you rest in peace my friend.

Deepest sympathies to your family in your loss. Russ was an exceptional father and man by any measure. I liked him from the moment I met him and that affection and respect just deepened over time. In this season of sorrow, may you find the comfort and consolation you need. Russ was like a comet in the night sky blazing a trail in memories and music. His legacy of life, love, laughter, and happily ever after lives on in his daughter, grandchildren, extended family, friends, and anyone fortunate to know him. Heaven has some great music playing right now and a master builder to help with getting those rainbows just right after a storm. And somewhere, angels are learning some new dance steps, too. The party is just getting started. Prayers for all.
