Obituary of Lloyd Hans Rippe

Chapel Hill - Lloyd Hans Rippe, Sr., 80, of Chapel Hill passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at UNC Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Rippe was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Kurt and Agnes Rippe but grew up in Germany. He returned to the US after the war in 1951. He proudly served in the US Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He was the owner and operator of AlphaTron Data Service in Paramus, NJ until retiring. He then opened a car wash with his good friend and operated that for many years. Eventually, he joined his children in North Carolina, where he owned and operated the Chapel Hill landmark bar, Bub O'Malley's (with the distinction of being the longest running owner). In addition to his parents, Mr. Rippe was preceded in death by his wife Mathilde Rippe and his brother, Walter Rippe. He is survived by his sons: Lloyd Rippe, Jr. and wife Shawn of Silk Hope, NC; James Rippe, Sr. and wife Tina of Durham, NC; four grandchildren: Maggie Rippe, Drew Rippe, James Rippe Jr., and Marcus Rippe. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill, NC. Funeral Services will be held at Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Fairview St. Paramus, NJ. Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, NJ. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is honored to serve the Rippe family.
