Obituary of Clarence R. Daniel

Clarence R. Daniel, 91, died February 10, 2017. Mr. Daniel was born October 27, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, Dry Fork, VA. He was a son of Charlie Harvey Daniel and Lizzie Goard Daniel. Clarence served in the United States Marine Corps first division during World War II. His unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. In the battle of Okinawa he received a Purple Heart medal.
Mr. Daniel was in the restaurant business for more than thirty years. He owned and operated the Howard Johnson Restaurant on Chapel Hill Blvd, Durham, NC, Jordan's Steak House in Chapel Hill, NC and Jordan's Steak House in Greensboro, NC. He also had interest in several other restaurants in North Carolina.
Preceding him in death was his lovely wife Nancy (Sunshine) Hill Daniel, his two sons Freddie W. Merricks of Chapel Hill, NC and Jerry Lee Daniel of Reidsville, NC, four brothers Charlie Pete Daniel of Mt. Cross, VA, Tom R. Daniel and Willard Daniel of Dry Fork, VA, Harvey R. Daniel of Danville, VA, and one sister Wilma Well Daniel of Danville, VA. He is survived by two sisters, Irma Goard Daniel and Edith Mae Daniel of Dry Fork, VA, two grandchildren Jeff Merricks (wife, Beth) and Jan Briggs (husband, Ray) and four great grandchildren Jeffrey Merricks of Graham, NC, Casey Briggs, Justin Merricks, and Chandler Briggs, of Chapel Hill, NC. Mr. Daniel attended Bethel Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, NC.
The family will receive visitors Monday, February 13, 2017 from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. A graveside service will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Autism Society of North Carolina.
