Obituary of Faye Brockwell

Please share a memory of Faye to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Some people walk softly through this world and yet their gentle spirits awaken the best in all others around them. Faye Brockwell born Allie Faye Swink on March 14, 1928 in Cass, WV was exactly one of those people. Losing her father Charles Swink at a young age, her mother Ruth Tallman Swink and grandfather John Henry Tallman raised her and her brother Stewart, who all preceded her in death, in the mountains of rural West Virginia. Her family's humble beginnings shaped an appreciation for all things in her life and her love of nature. Faye joined the Navy W.A.V.E.S. and while serving her country working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. she caught the eye of another Navy service member Glenn Brockwell Jr. He remembered her name and upon locating her started a love story that has lasted over 65 years. She knew how to love and be loved. She grew this love she found with Glenn and produced four daughters Gwen Snowden (m. George), Kathy Woody (m. Max), Brenda Hardt (m. Tim), and Sharon Reyes (m. Rich) raising them in Durham, NC. Their daughters carried on that love and as a Memaw/Grandmother, she has inspired her grandchildren with her quiet strength and wisdom. Her grandchildren include Heather Snowden Hackler (m. Jake), Kaylie Hardt Ellison (m. Adam) , Harrison Hardt (m. Katie), George Snowden III (m. Shelly), Brock Snowden, and Allie Woody. Her great grandchildren include Brinn Hardt, Trent Ellison, Andrew Ellison, Vivian Hackler, Oliver Ellison, Peyton Hardt, Charlie Hackler, Sullivan Hardt, and coming soon George Snowden IV. She passed away surrounded by family on April 20, 2017 in Durham, NC. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Also, her sister-in-law Betty Swink and niece Veronica, whom she had a close friendship. Faye was not one to celebrate in a large scale in this life but her life was worth celebration. Her example of love and family has and will continue to inspire the lives she has touched.
