Obituary of James Travis Rives

James "Jim" Travis Rives, 82, of Chapel Hill passed away, Monday, May 8, 2017 at his home, with his family by his side. Jim was born December 10, 1934 in Louisville, MS, to the late Eston and Maudie Woodson Rives. He served in the United States Air Force and the Army National Guard with his last duty assignment as Logistical Operations Officer with the 30th Support Group as a Lt. Col. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Chapel Hill in 1990. After retirement, he began Jim's Landscaping & Nursery which Jim and his wife Kathryn operated until 2010. Jim was a member and served as Deacon of Antioch Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother William Rives. He is survived by his wife Kathryn A. Rives, daughters: Debbie Rives Williams and Susan Rives Whildin and husband Brandon, his grandchildren: Erin Reyes and husband Omar, Jay Williams and Ian, Aidan and Evan Whildin, a sister, Ann Harper, and a brother Bobby Rives. The family will receive friends, Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Antioch Baptist Church, 1707 White Cross Rd. Chapel Hill, NC. Funeral Services will be held, at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Antioch Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, NC with Rev. David Atwater officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors.
