Obituary of Teresa Dawn Nida

It breaks my heart to let everyone know that my sister Teresa Dawn Nida has moved on to be with the Lord on January 12, 2025. Terri had resided at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham and was 60 years old at her passing. I take solace in the fact that she told us her heart was full of joy and she was at peace and in no pain at her passing. Terri was very thankful for all of your love and support. 

Terri graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1982, followed by several years of studies at UNC-Wilmington University. In 2013 Terri suffered a spinal cord injury after a fall at her apartment in Chapel Hill. The injury left her a quadriplegic for the remaining years of her life. After spending time at the Shepard Center in Atlanta Terri was able to learn how to operate a head control electric wheelchair as well as how to be a self-advocate for all her needs. Terri moved back to North Carolina and eventually into Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham. Terri became so proficient at using her voice-controlled computer that she completed her BS online in Business Administration at NC Wesleyan College.  

Terri had a strong faith and loved her Triangle Church family dearly. She had a blog www.diaryofaquadriplegic.com that spoke of her faith amidst her daily struggles which inspired over 400 followers. She was also a published author with one of her short stories, “Peanut Butter Cups”, published through The Vicent Brothers review at Substack. Terri was a huge UNC fan and loved watching the games on TV wearing her lucky UNC gear. 

Terri was Predeceased in death by her parents, James and Doris Nida. She was survived by her brother James “Jimmy” Nida, (Tambi), her nieces Jessica Nida and Kristen Nida Held (Tyler), and their son Lincoln. 

There will be a Memorial Service for Terri on Sunday, January 26th, at 2:00 pm (casual attire upon Terri's request). The service will be held at Triangle Church of Christ located at 2103 Page Rd. Durham, NC 27703. A reception with refreshments to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
