Teresa is my little sister, about 5 years behind me, so we were not particularly close as kids. However, as we reached early adulthood we developed a strong bond and we got together whenever we could, even when we lived far apart. I enjoyed visiting her in Germany and was amazed at her ability to hike long distances just for fun. She visited me a couple of times when I lived in California, and later in South Carolina when our kids were young. But when she got sick it became hard for her to travel or entertain visitors so our visits became less frequent.
My most endearing memory of Teresa was when she showed up in California to help me with my move back east. I had a car, a pickup truck, a horse trailer, a horse and a dog, and hadn’t worked out the details of getting everyone and everything back east. But Teresa showed up and made it possible
.
Teresa was a loving mother who worked hard to give her children the best she was able. She home schooled her kids, and raised a wonderful son and daughter.
The love Volkmar and Teresa shared was a sight to behold. Because Volkmar knew he could care for her better than anyone else, he kept her home right up to her last breath, a very difficult task lasting many years. With his loving care, Teresa lived much longer than the doctors though she would. I am relieved she no longer is in pain, but she lives a big hole in our lives.
