I met Sandy B in February 2011 at the Vermont Dept of Financial Regulation. I was the insurance deputy before I was commissioner and was told that Sandy B was a tough cookie—especially when it came to the budget. In fact, her nickname was Dr. No. Now, we had a fridge in the kitchen that was an old wreck. Barely kept food cool and the freezer was busted. I asked why haven’t we either gotten the old thing fixed or bought a new one. The answer, I was told, was that Sandy B said “no” — it was too expensive to fix and too expensive to have it removed and too expensive to buy a new one. But, we were encouraging our employees to bring in their lunch and eat more healthily. A working fridge was a good idea. So, what to do? Well, I knew Sandy was going on a 2 week vacation soon, so I waited til she was gone, had someone go over to the local appliance store and have a very basic discounted floor model fridge delivered immediately and take the old one away. Of course, she would find out when she saw the invoice but the dirty deed was done. She returned from vacation, no one said a peep about the fridge, but she made her rounds and saw the new unit. When I got to the office that morning she “greeted” me and I said “so you know, huh?” She nodded and I said “I figured, better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. And we got a discount!” She burst out laughing. We had a lot of other laughs. She was a character.
Godspeed, Sandy B.

I was so saddened to read of “Sandy B’s” passing. I worked with her back in 1973 at the Vermont DMV when I was right out of high school. She taught me so much about taking pride in your work, but also taking time to have fun. I have fond memories of her and send heartfelt sympathy to her family.

I am very saddened to hear of Sandy's passing. I recently just found out that was no longer a volunteer at the Wilson Center. I will never forget all the great talks we had, she was one tough lady! I will try to live like Sandy did and her words will forever resonate in my mind. Thank God for sharing her, please take care of her as she is now back in your arms.

We are stunned and sad. This is the loveliest obituaries I have ever read. Makes you smile with a tear. We didn't know sandy as well as we would have liked to but remember her smile...her sarcasm...her kindness and her love for her family. She was an amazing woman. Casey and Jen I know you have the best memories that will help you get through this loss. You have had more than your share. Sending hugs and want you to know if there is ever anything you need you can always call on us. Love you both ❤️

It's so hard to pick a single memory, because there are so many good ones. One of my favorite SandyB memories was during the summer of 2010, in which Sandy got me Bon Jovi concert tickets for my birthday. Her and I are both big Bon Jovi nerds, something we bonded over, and neither of us had seen them in concert before. And it was only my second rock concert. So Sandy, Jenn, Stacey, and I headed to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA, got our T-shirts, and sang along with every song. During "Have A Nice Day", whenever the lyrics "Have a nice day" were sung, a graphic of the smiley face from the album cover was shown. And each time it would have some different animation, like winking, or showing its teeth. Sandy was sitting next to me of course, and we laughed every time it came on. It was also one of the hottest, most humid days of the summer, and of course Jon Bon Jovi was wearing some tight leather outfit. About halfway through, he disappeared for a costume change and the rest of the band performed "Lay Your Hands On Me". Richie Sambora (on vocals) had the entire audience singing the chorus for what felt like an eternity, and we all joked that they had to buy time because they couldn't peel Jon Bon Jovi out of his leather outfit. I'm really going to miss my concert buddy. But I'm so thankful for all of the great concerts we went too, especially this one.

I am very sad to read this. Your mother was a Senior Angel for my mother quite a few years ago and she was the sweetest, most thoughtful woman I have ever met. Her unflagging positivity was just what my mother needed in her last years of life. I met Sandy in person twice, once when my father and I stopped at her home in New Hampshire after my mother’s death and again in Marysville, Kansas, as she and her family passed through on their coast-to-coast trip. She greeted me each time as a special friend and I would not trade the memory of those few hours in her company for anything. Know that your family is in my prayers. May you find peace in the knowledge that her beautiful presence is now in a higher realm.

Over the last few days, I’ve been sharing one of my earliest memories of my Mom. I was four years old, and at the time, she was a single mother, working long days and taking care of her wee son at night. But I had no idea of how much she gave me, until years later. This one particular memory is when I was maybe 3 or 4 years old. I had a 500 piece Star Wars puzzle - way too hard for a kid my age, but I loved Star Wars, and she would come home and help me put it together while she cooked dinner and cleaned our tiny apartment. She loved me more than I could realize, and she taught me so much. I will miss you Ma, but you’ll live on forever in the lives of everybody you touched.
