Marie and I met one day in 2010 getting our mail. We became good friends and enjoyed each other’s company. I would walk over to visit every week or two, and we would spend the time on the back porch chatting away if the weather was nice. Marie would tell me all about the neighborhood as she and her family had been there for many years, about the Butler homestead and the tobacco field Mrs Butler (Maries mother-in-law) would tend to all by herself and the wonderful home Marie’s husband built for her and the children right next door. So many stories about raising her children and later when her children were older going off to work at the school and just how much she cherished all those children as well. And coming home after school to hop on the lawn mower to mow the lawn, that was not work to her, she loved getting out and caring for the yard. Marie was one of the happiest and warmest people I’ve met, she loved her family, her life and people coming to visit. She would always great me with a hug and send me off with one as well.
