“ There are two ways of spreading light : to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it”. Ruth was both to so many of us. Her smile lit up the room whenever we were with her. She openly shared her knowledge and experiences, helping us grow and flourish, as ultrasonographers and friends. I was able to be her and Phil’s “ professional driver” on many of their trips to New England and my wife Mary and I will forever hold these memories close to our hearts. We’ll miss you Ruth, you’ve been a bright shining star showing us the way.

Ruth was the best sonographer I have ever worked with. Talented and smarter than most of the doctors - she was a joy as a colleague. She had a keen sense of right and wrong and would absolutely go to the mat for a patient’s welfare. I am so glad that I met her.

Ruth, Rory and I were in a vo-tech nursing assistants class together at Chantilly High School. Ruth was incredibly intelligent, funny and kind. She was so incredibly smart, always having a fact or extra tidbit to a subject. She cared about everyone and everything around her. She believed in the underdog, always championing for other peoples success and betterment.
Funny. She had a quick wit and easiness about her humor.
Ruth was loved by so many and will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with her family and lifelong friends as they find there way through this loss.

I’m so sorry that Ruth is no longer with us on earth. She was a gentle and kind soul. I was lucky enough to be neighbors with Ruth and later joined a book club with her. She always had a funny story or a fun fact about the book. Im so glad that I was lucky enough to experience Ruth’s kind and warm heart. I’ll miss you, Ruth ❤️

Ruth was a dear friend and I will miss her so much. She was one of the kindest, most caring people I have ever met. She always made me feel loved and appreciated. I am so grateful for the time we were able to spend together and the blessing of being her friend.

Ruth was a regular member of my Taiji and Qigong classes at the UNC Wellness centers for some years before the pandemic and via Zoom for the last two years. She brought a quiet joy to each session that enhanced the experience both for me and for her classmates. She made fast friends with several and shared time with them outside of our meetings. Hers was clearly a life already rich with the usual rewards of these gentle arts of breath and meditative movement: balance, equanimity, serenity, and infectious good humor. My deep condolences to Phil and all her loving family and friends in your loss. It is ours as well. —Dr. Jay

It's hard to imagine the world without Ruth in it, and I am glad that I can still hear the music in her voice as she would talk about the things that gave her joy, whether it was learning to cook a new dish or exclaiming about flowers she saw in the Arboretum. You're gone way too soon, Ruth.

Thanks for allowing us to be with you on this sad time. From the first moment we met Ruth there was a magical connection that only grew stronger as time went by. We traveled together to Hawaii and Ireland and she made every single minute a moment of love, fun and wisdom. We never imagined that she would be the one leaving us but are forever grateful to God for placing her in our paths and lives, God bless my dear “subject”!

I am so grateful that Ruth came into my life. I worked with her for many years at UNC and have always appreciated her joy of life and her willingness to help others. She was also willing to share her knowledge of her profession with all of us. Always kind and so full of joy and happiness for us to witness and to learn by her example. Thank you my dear friend, Ruth for all that you gave to us. I know the Angels are rejoicing. Linda Baudoin

I consider our 22 years together as one long beautiful honeymoon ... We really enjoyed traveling to places like Hawaii, Ireland, Scotland, Alaska, Washington State, California, as far north as Nova Scotia, and as far south as FL and the Bahamas. Ruth and I shared the gift of laughter almost everyday, and she was the love of my life. I will miss her forever.
