I knew Janet when I was on the faculty at the main campus at Kent State ,Ohio. the chairman had asked me to mentor her for tenure in the department. I became very fond of Janet, recognizing her scholarly achievements--which she didn't acknowledge with the enthusiasm her work deserved. I still have copies of her articles and poems, which I saved because her poetry touched me deeply. I struggled to get her recognized by the department, a struggle that brought me into conflict with the chair at that time. His attitude and the attitude of her regional dean was neither just nor justifiable. It was after that year that Janet began teaching in Erie. I regret that I didn't stay in touch with her. She was a good woman, a marvelous teacher and a fine scholar. She will rest in peace now. Diana Culbertson, O.P. (emeritus professor)
